Pre-Departure Orientation

Before leaving the U.S., program participants attend a pre-departure orientation program at the American Councils Washington, D.C. office.

Orientation sessions address health and safety, Eurasian academic culture, host-family life, culture shock, strategies to maximize language gain, and first-day survival phrases. Participants have a chance to meet and get to know fellow participants and American Councils staff during the program. Students are housed in a hotel in close proximity to our office. All meals are provided during the orientation program. All students depart for their host-country together.
