Contemporary Russia Program

Almost 75 years after Winston Churchill famously dubbed it ‘a riddle wrapped in an enigma,’ Russia continues to intrigue, confound, and often mystify Western observers. Designed to give participants a new understanding of the country today, Contemporary Russia explores the country's evolution after the collapse of the Soviet Union, political and economic development under Vladimir Putin, the state’s efforts to control the media, and new cultural phenomena. The four-week summer program at Moscow State University also offers Russian language and cultural excursions.

Russian Heritage Speakers Program

Customized to the individual needs of each participant, the Russian Heritage Speakers Program serves students who grew up speaking Russian at home or with family and wish to strengthen their language skills. Program features include homestays, weekly excursions, travel to other regions of Russia, conversation partners, and a wide range of opportunities to pursue hobbies and personal interests in a Russian context.

Summer Russian Language Teachers Program

This six-week summer program in Moscow offers pre- and in-service teachers of Russian language the opportunity to improve both their language and teaching skills. Highlighted by classes, discussion groups, excursions, and cultural activities, this unique program for U.S. teachers of Russian language is fully funded by the U.S. Department of Education (Fulbright-Hays).

Balkans

Balkan Language Initiative

Offering intensive, highly- individualized instruction in Albanian, Bosnian, Macedonian, and Serbian, this program provides an unprecedented opportunity for students to immerse themselves in daily local life in a region largely unserved by study abroad programs through homestays, conversation partners, in-class instruction, and a wide range of extracurricular activities.

Asia

Indonesian Overseas Program (IOP)

The course content was excellent. The material was tailored both to my ability level and area of interest. The out of class work was just the right amount and was useful practice.
